The Duchess of Sussex recently sat down and interviewed Emily Ramshaw from the 19th*. A non-partisan, non-profit 91% female led newsroom. This interview took place on a zoom format, similar to what we’ve seen from Meghan since May. This particular interview had less politics in it, and more Meghan waxing poetically about the toxic media. Which is interesting because both Meghan and Harry called up a twitter troll and cyberbully. Link to Article
What really grinds my gears is that a few days later Meghan joined a virtual panel on the women’s vote. During this panel Meghan made several alarming statements, stating that “There’s too much at stake not to vote in this election.” And shaming women for being complicit in 2016.
Why is Meghan getting involved in politics?
Since I don’t have access to Meghan’s internal dialogue, I have to make some educated guesses. But my gut feeling about Meghan’s recent activity is that in the wake of her Hollywood dreams failing to materialize she is jumping into politics. I don’t think she will join the political arena yet, I think she wants to host a talk show similar to Joy Reid.
One revelation from Finding Freedom is that Meghan considered journalism while she was in college. She ultimately settled on acting, potentially because her writing wasn’t that great. But knowing this, it seems that she is returning to this desire.
During her 19th* interview she stated that she would “put on her journalist hat” and talked about journalism quite a bit. Plus, the format of her discussion with Emily Ramshaw was Meghan interviewing Emily. Something that a talk show host does on their show. So she flipped the tables in a quite deliberate way in my opinion, and I guess she wants to use her footage from the 19th* as an audition tape for acting. Further, she has several qualities which talk show hosts have, one being an interest in social media. By this point we know she has accounts and stays apprised of what happens in the digital space. With her own show she would get to do it a lot more.
Her discussion about women voting cemented my feelings because the entire talk felt like I was listening to a shallow, watered down and less intellectual Rachel Maddow. So, it’s clear that she is aiming for a talk show spot on MSNBC or CNN or the like. Or like Michelle Obama, she may launch a podcast where she can weigh in on politics. I’d guess though, that she wants to be on screen.
Coupled with a lot of gossip I’ve read about Meghan not getting offered enough money for gigs, I think it’s completely the case that she wants to be a talking head. But what can she contribute to the conversations? And further, when is she planning on addressing her poor speech performance? She can’t keep her hands off her hair for 5 minutes and thinks she can host an hour long show 5 days a week.
Meghan has proved herself to be a HUGE hypocrite, again.
It’s difficult recently, but there was a time two years ago when Meghan publicly stated how excited she was to join the royal family. She was ready to give up her acting career and be a Duchess serving Queen and (new) country. Part of representing the Queen as a working royal is avoiding politics.
Queen Elizabeth has spent 68 years on the throne. Each and every one of those years she avoided weighing into politics. She takes her position as a constitutional monarch very seriously and will never interfere with the democratic process. She has had to deal diplomatically with leaders she must personally find unsavory. But she kept it all hidden in order to protect her throne and country. Her heirs to the throne also obey Elizabeth’s mandate.
Presumably, when Meghan joined the family, she also promised that she would remain a-political. However, she struggled while she was in the family with her preaching about the environment, and likely skipped Donald Trump’s visit on purpose. Thus, she struggled while she was in the family. Now that she’s out of the family the allure of the democratic process proved too much.
I was skeptical when Lady Colin-Campbell stated in her book that Meghan has designs on the white house. Now however, that really seems to be the case. Obviously, Meghan can’t start running right now, the democratic party already has candidates. But in the future she very likely will run. By then she won’t have her Duchess title, as that will need to disappear before a presidential bid.
But that’s why it’s so important for her to secure a talk show spot right now. It’s a strategy Pete Buttigieg is also using. The idea is that the person who wants to be President will get a talk show host spot and win over the public through their show. This will give them name recognition on the ballot, and it will help them build their platform.
All roads as of now point to Meghan’s designs on the white house.
Why we don’t need Meghan in Politics
Meghan’s speeches thus far have only included useless platitudes and no real substance. She doesn’t bring anything to the table other than publicity because people are interested in her train wreck life here in North America. All of her speeches also seem cherry picked in order to antagonize the British press and royal watchers with her ignorance.
Meghan suggests that she is a role model and someone who has broken glass ceilings by joining the royal family. As if marrying a Prince equates her to the likes of Michelle Obama, Kamala Harris, Sandra Day O’Conner and the like. But all of the previously named women, Meghan needed to marry someone in order to reach a high level of fame. Now Michelle might be an exception, but prior to her husband becoming President, she had been active in supporting youth on the south side of Chicago and had become a major player in Chicago.
Here’s the thing. America already has a bi-racial woman running for a spot in the white house. She doesn’t have any foreign titles, nor did she become famous simply by marrying her husband. Her father in law has never had to pay her bills, nor has she attacked the press.
We have everything Meghan pretends to be in Kamala Harris. And say what you will about her, but she is a much better role model than Meghan.
Amen! Well thought out and so to the point.
