Meghan and Harry's Long and Unsuccessful Road to Privacy: The Litigation Friends find Themselves in California State Court

The Short Summary   The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, as they are named in their complaint, are suing 100 anonymous photographers for taking photographs of their 14 month old son, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor while the child was playing in their backyard.  The Sussexes allege that these photographers have utilized drone footage in order to spy on the infant child.  The Plaintiffs further allege that the photographers have cut holes in the mesh fence around the Sussex’s backyard in order to unlawfully spy on Archie.  The Sussexes claim that these unnamed paparazzi have infringed on their child’s privacy, and the privacy of other members of the Sussex household.      Suing an Unknown Defendant What is most striking about this lawsuit is the lack of a defendant.  Instead of naming an adverse party, Harry and Meghan have opted to sue 100 anonymous defendants, using “John Doe 1-100” as pseudonyms.  Many followers have pointed this out and asked whethe...

The Duchess of Sussex Weighs in on Inequality and American Government

I did not initially plan on writing my thoughts about Meghan’s speech.  For one, my news didn’t spend hardly any time covering it, so I wasn’t as inundated as I was with Harry’s disastrous Commonwealth Talk.  Instead, I was mainly overwhelmed with posts on my Instagram explore page.  I was surprised to see how many people said that Meghan’s speech was inspiring, but more surprised to see anyone thought it was good.  Now, I may be biased because I’ve been trained in trial advocacy, so I am very critical of public speaking but even past those issues, the speech had so many moments where I thought “why are you qualified to give this information?”  So let’s dig in!   Failure to Launch   Meghan started by talking about her recent speech to high school graduates at Immaculate Heart, her alma mater.  To me this screamed that she was trying to establish some shred of credibility.  As if she was saying, “look, I talked about George Floyd and rebuildin...

Every Time I Think Meghan and Harry can’t stoop any lower, they surprise me

In the last few weeks we have been let into the mind of Meghan Markle and it is not a pretty place.  I always assumed that she was envious of other royals, but it was incredibly shocking to read her call out three minor players in the Windsor dynasty in such an immature manner as part of her privacy lawsuit .  It’s also validating as a royal watcher to see her and Harry crash and burn without Kensington Palace’s protections (and PR team, they deserve a raise). But I’m left with a question, what will be next?   Let’s Refresh Everything that has happened this year   In January, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex famously ‘stepped back’ from their role as senior royals.  Many were left scratching their heads, because what exactly is a senior royal?  And why can’t Meghan seem to hold down a job for longer than three years?  First, let’s address the extremely vague statement given by the Sussexes, released via Instagram WITHOUT first running it by the Queen....
